Leave a congratulatory message for the birthday boy and girl. Look below and find Posted by cathsap, then click on the word comments (to the right). Don't click on the little envelope. You do not have to "sign up" for anything to leave a message. Another way to leave a message is to send it through e-mail.

• Include your name (first name only if you prefer)
• Your relationship to Bob and/or Dodie (niece, co-worker, etc.)
• The message moderator reserves the right to edit for considerations of space and identity privacy (we will omit personal info like addresses, phone numbers, etc.)

BEFORE you close out of your message, be sure to type in the verification letters and/or numbers you see on the screen -- this helps weed out automated junk messages. ALSO: you will be asked to "Choose an identity." Simply check "Anonymous." As long as you identify yourself in your message, we will know who you are!

Happy 80th Birthday, Twins!

Mom, no one could ever ask for a better mother. I know now how hard it must have been for you to raise 3 children all on your own, and I just feel so lucky. I remember my friends used to say, “I wish your mom was my mom.” I think that says it all! I don’t remember ever being mad at you or the other way around (well, except for that one time on the way to church when Barbara and I were fighting in the back seat and you turned around and pinched me -- hard!) You gave me a great childhood and have been the best grandmother to Jasmine and Ben. Not many grandmothers would spend hours and hours sitting on the floor playing Barbies with their granddaughters and crawling through playhouses and going down the slides! Thank you for always being there for me.

Uncle Bob,

How could Mom have done it without you? She always had her brother to rely on, especially when things broke down (like our car!) Thank goodness you were there for us. I also have great memories of going to your house(s) to go swimming. It would have been better if I hadn’t had to deal with that scary Harold dog, but you can’t have everything (ha-ha! See, I am still terrorized from him!) Congratulations on 80 great years and many more to come!

I hope when I turn 80 that I am in as good of shape as you are.

Thanks for raising me, Cathy, Peggy, and David, the way you did. I know of no other parents who were as good as you and Mom at taking care of their children. Thanks for teaching me how to camp, start a campfire, fly fish, drive a car, use a wrench, be responsible, and a myriad other things. Thanks for being such a good father.

Aunt Dodie--

I grew up seeing your glamorous portraits on the wall of Grandma's bedroom … and knowing, thus, that there was hope for me, another "girl with the glasses." I felt sure that my caterpillar self would morph into a butterfly, just like you.

Thank you for all the times you have been there for me. I will never forget the day the kids and I moved to our tiny Monterey Way bungalow … and discovered the previous tenants had not cleaned before they left. You popped by to see how the we were settling in and before I knew, it you'd scrubbed the entire bathroom. Such a blessing you have been to me.

Dad--

Your confidence in me and what I could do has never failed. You continue to amaze me with your energy and positive, "can-do" attitude. When people need you, you are there. When something has to get fixed, you've got the time (and always, the right tools). Our regular Tuesday morning coffee date is the entertainment highlight of my week, mainly because we get to sit and make wisecracks about other Starbucks customers. But mostly, I like spending Tuesday mornings with you because you are my connection to the Betts and Storie families of the past and the future. Thank you for instilling in me a sense of humor and an appreciation for the lively world around me.

You modeled "integrity" for me, and I have to echo the words of writer Clarence B. Kelland: "My father didn't tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it."
